About Creative Writing
It takes wild-eyed determination to walk the path that only you can see.
What I've learned along the way:
(1) Open your heart to inspiration
This part is mysterious. Read Liz Gilbert's book Big Magic. I have nothing to add.
(2) Books are written one page at a time
Remember from Thomas Edison that Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent transpiration. Once the inspriation is over, sit down and write to a daily page goal. Yes, it can be done.
(3) Add flesh to the bones
Expand your episodes to chapter size. I thought the "fillers" were my worst writing, but they turned out to be my best.
(4) Chisel the book into shape by relentless editing
This will take eighty percent of the whole process.
(5) Creative writing is the loneliest business.
It cannot be turned into a team effort. Friends and family will help - but they won't share your vision, passion, and faith. BUT DO GET AN EDITOR.
